The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has begun handing over water pumps donated by the Japanese government to the councils of islands prone to flooding. This project, which is being implemented in two phases, aims to provide essential equipment to a total of 35 islands.
Under the first phase of the initiative, 40 pumps are scheduled to be distributed across 20 islands, with five islands having already received their allocations. This effort is a key component of the government’s broader strategy to enhance local disaster resilience and strengthen the capacity of islands to manage such incidents effectively.
