On the sidelines of the “Zero Waste Forum” currently being held in Türkiye, the Maldives’ Minister of Fisheries and Agriculture, Ahmed Shiyam, met with his Turkish counterpart to deliberate on bilateral trade frameworks. The discussions primarily centered on accelerating the export of fisheries and agricultural products under the newly established Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA), which facilitates duty-free access for specific commodities. Furthermore, both parties explored avenues to bolster cooperation in enhancing food security. During the meeting, Minister Shiyam expressed gratitude for the Turkish government’s continued support to the Maldives, while both ministers emphasized the importance of ensuring that the benefits of these strategic agreements are effectively realized for the mutual prosperity of both nations.
