Maldives Customs Service has intercepted a shipment of over 2 million smuggled cigarettes attempted to be brought into the country via sea. The seizure took place at the Male’ Commercial Harbor on the 14th of this month. According to Customs, a total of 2,304,200 cigarette sticks were confiscated during this operation.
While further details regarding the investigation have not yet been disclosed, Customs continues to strengthen its efforts to curb the illegal importation of tobacco products and electronic cigarettes into the Maldives.
