Dr. Shah Mahir, the Managing Director of the state-owned pharmaceutical company, has stated that the primary obstacle to ensuring the availability of medicine is that the supply chain infrastructure has not evolved at the same pace as the overall healthcare sector in the Maldives. The company is currently working to resolve systemic issues related to the importation process, safe warehousing, and the synchronization of pharmaceutical data across relevant administrative bodies.
Since April, the company has successfully fulfilled more than 1,000 prescriptions. Their ultimate goal is to manage inventory effectively to ensure an uninterrupted supply of all essential medications used in the country. Furthermore, Dr. Shah noted that efforts are underway in collaboration with the private sector to stabilize medicine prices, and he expressed confidence that the public will experience the positive impact of these improvements within the next six months.
