President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has ratified the amendment to the Waste Management Act, providing significant relief on the fees levied on plastic bags. Under this amendment, bundles containing 50 or more plastic bags are now exempt from the 2-Rufiyaa-per-bag fee, effectively resolving the previous issue of double taxation. Furthermore, the legislation clearly outlines the standards for establishing waste management systems and facilities, alongside the specific responsibilities of relevant authorities. The regulations required under this Act must be published in the Government Gazette within 30 days.
