The Civil Service Commission has introduced a new policy enabling island councils with small populations to recruit staff from other islands within the same atoll when local candidates are unavailable. Under this arrangement, selected employees for authorized and budgeted positions may perform their duties by reporting to the council office on their island of residence. While administrative supervision and attendance will be overseen by the Secretary-General or a designated official at the local office, all matters pertaining to remuneration and employment conditions will be governed by the National Pay Framework and Civil Service regulations.
