Chief Justice Ahmed Muthasim Adnan Retires with Honor

Chief Justice Ahmed Muthas Justice Ahmed Muthasim Adnan has honorably retired from his position as a judge. His retirement comes following the Judicial Service Commission (JSC)’s decision to grant him this opportunity. The Chief Justice submitted his request for retirement last May. This marks the first Chief Justice to retire honorably under the current constitution. All previous Chief Justices were removed from their positions.

In a post shared by the Supreme Court regarding his retirement, they expressed gratitude for his valuable services to the Maldivian judiciary during his tenure as the Chief Justice of the Maldives.

Ahmed Muthasim Adnan obtained his Bachelor of Laws in 1992 from the University of Buckingham in the United Kingdom. In 1994, he completed his Master of Philosophy from the University of Glasgow in Scotland. From 1994 to 2001, Ahmed Muthasim Adnan served as the Director of the Legal Section at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. From 2001 to 2005, he worked as the Dean of the Faculty of Sharia and Law at the Maldives National University.

Ahmed Muthasim Adnan was appointed as the Chief Justice in December 2019. Prior to this, he served as a Supreme Court Justice from 2009 to December 2014. Following Ahmed Muthasim Adnan’s retirement, the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has decided to temporarily entrust the management of the Supreme Court to Justice Abdullah Hameed. Consequently, the Supreme Court has announced that all correspondence to the court should be addressed to him starting from today.
