A 26-year-old German citizen named Caroline Wilga was found 12 days after she went missing in a remote area of Australia. Caroline, a backpacker visiting Australia as a tourist, disappeared on June 29 in the Wheatbelt region of Western Australia. She was last seen in an area called Beacon, approximately 254 kilometers from Perth. Authorities intensified their search for Caroline when her vehicle was found stuck in mud in an area called Haron Hill, where she had abandoned it. Her van was discovered 11 days after she went missing, on July 10. Upon finding the vehicle, aerial surveys of the area were conducted, and forensic work was also carried out in the vicinity.

Caroline was found the following day, on July 12. She was discovered in an area approximately 20 to 24 kilometers away from where her van was found. A member of the public who was traveling through the area spotted her. When found, she was walking along a narrow path in a densely vegetated, jungle-like area. It is understood that Caroline left her vehicle on foot after it became stuck in the mud, preventing her from continuing her journey.

Unable to get a signal on her phone, she set out on foot to find an inhabited area. However, there were no settlements near where her vehicle had stopped. During the 12 days Caroline spent on the road, she endured heavy rains and nights with temperatures dropping below zero degrees Celsius. With no food or drink, she was forced to survive by drinking from puddles formed by rainwater. She also sought shelter in some caves. She walked westward, using the sun as a guide. When found, her entire body was severely bitten by mosquitoes. Although she was dehydrated and had scratches and cuts on various parts of her body, she had not suffered any major injuries.

Australian authorities said it was a cause for celebration that Caroline was found in good condition. They stated that her survival in such difficult circumstances was due to her courage. Caroline is currently receiving treatment at a hospital in Perth. Once her health improves, she wishes to continue her journey in Australia.
