Minister of Education, Dr. Ismail Shafeeu, has announced that the construction work of Arabiyya School will be completed by the end of November next year. The Minister made this statement in an interview given to PSM News after inaugurating the foundation work of Arabiyya School. The foundation stone for Arabiyya School was laid last November, with the construction work awarded to Rasheed Carpentry and Construction (RCC) for MVR 83 million less than the price quoted by the previously contracted builder. Currently, foundation work has been completed and overall construction has commenced.

In an interview with PSM News after laying the foundation of Arabiyya School, Minister of Education Dr. Ismail Shafeeu stated that the work on Arabiyya School will be completed by the end of November next year. The Minister also noted that, in line with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s pledge, Arabiyya School will be a very modern school. In this regard, the Minister stated that the school will feature the first underground parking facility in Malé, accommodating over 200 motorcycles and cars.

Highlighting that the new Arabiyya School building’s compound will be similar in size to that of Dharumavantha School, the Minister said that locating the school near the Maafannu Stadium would also be convenient for students. “The school’s terrace will also have sufficient space for students, teachers, and even civil societies to utilize,” said Minister of Education Dr. Ismail Shafeeu.

The Ministry of Education stated that the new Arabiyya School building will feature 42 classrooms, a multipurpose hall, 4 lifts, and all other facilities required in a school. Arabiyya School is being developed as a 10-story building. A new building for Arabiyya School is being developed because the previous building where students had been studying was severely cracked and deemed unsuitable for student occupancy. Following this, the students were temporarily relocated to the building that previously housed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. However, due to limited space and other issues there, Arabiyya School students are currently studying at the former Dharumavantha School.

Previously, efforts to find a new building for Arabiyya School led the then-government to decide on constructing the school on the land where the old Baa Jamaluddin School once stood. However, due to a portion of that land being allocated to Jamaluddin School, and potential space constraints and increased congestion in the area if two schools were built in one vicinity, this government decided to construct the new Arabiyya School building on the plot number 381, located next to the boundary wall of Iyaazuddin School.
