The United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has described the operation conducted by the United States in collaboration with Israel, under the guise of providing food to millions of starving people in Gaza, Palestine, as a threat to the lives of Gaza’s residents. He stated that this operation is resulting in the martyrdom of many people.

The Israeli forces began a genocide against the people of Gaza on October 7, 2023. Since March 2, they have tightened the blockade on Gaza and obstructed the entry of food into the area. They have also halted the efforts of the UN and aid organizations to provide food and humanitarian supplies to the destitute. This is a crime being carried out with the assistance and cooperation of the United States.

The only organization currently distributing food to about 2.1 million starving people in Gaza is the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF). This is an organization created by US President Donald Trump in collaboration with Israel to take control of food distribution in Gaza. The Israeli forces are committing inhumane crimes in conjunction with this organization. They are attacking people who gather near the distribution centers established by GHF in the name of food distribution, martyring hundreds. The US and Israel have asked the UN to participate with GHF in carrying out aid distribution work in Gaza. However, the UN has refused. The UN views this as a biased operation and has also described it as an operation conducted under the guise of aid distribution to martyr the people of Gaza.

“Any operation that gathers [Gaza’s civilians] in an area with armed soldiers is an operation that will endanger those people’s lives. It is resulting in the loss of [Gaza residents’] lives,” Guterres said, criticizing the inhumane crimes being committed by the US and Israel in the name of GHF. Guterres said that the UN’s humanitarian operation in Gaza has been “strangled”. He also said that UN staff working for humanitarian causes in Gaza are starving. He added that as the occupying power, Israel has the responsibility to allow humanitarian aid to reach the country’s residents.

“[Gaza’s residents] who are working to find food for their starving family members are being martyred. Seeking food has been made a death sentence,” Guterres said. “This is the time to show political courage and halt the aggression on Gaza.” Israel eased the blockade on Gaza and allowed the UN to provide food and humanitarian aid to starving people on May 19. However, the UN said that more than 400 people have been martyred so far in crimes committed by Israeli terrorist soldiers targeting people gathering near aid distribution centers. This includes people martyred near both GHF and UN aid distribution centers.

GHF began its aid distribution work in Gaza on May 26. The security of this organization’s distribution centers is managed by US companies. The organization said it has distributed 48 million meals to Gaza’s residents since then. The US State Department said it has provided $30 million in aid to this organization.
