The President of the Bodyboarding Association, Hussein Nizam, has stated that the main focus of the “Hudhufonu” program is to introduce children to the sport, and they are hopeful for significant progress. Providing information to PSM News regarding the “Hudhufonu” program starting in N. Lhohi, Nizam said that when they began the clinics this year, it was to bring athletes into this sport. He also mentioned that they have decided to take the clinics from the north to the south of the country, placing great importance on the “Hudhufonu” program.
Nizam also stated that this year, the clinics were first held in the north, and the next one will be held in N. Lhohi as soon as possible. This clinic is open for participation to all children in Noonu Atoll. The national bodyboarding teaching program “Hudhufonu” clinic in Lhohi is the third clinic conducted this year. The clinic in Lhohi will be held from the 26th to the 28th of this month. The program in Lhohi is set to be conducted in collaboration with a Lhohi association called Saaf Scoa. The deadline for registration in this program is before 12 noon on Sunday, June 25th.
Nizam also mentioned that he believes these clinics will bring significant improvement to competitions. “The next competition is a special one. We will announce that competition later. I have great hope that many new children will enter into this through that competition,” Nizam said. Highlighting that some of the new athletes who participated in the recently concluded Burunu Shikaaru Body Boarding Challenge were participants of the Hudhufonu program, Nizam said that these children were noted for their skills and even reached the semi-finals.
Nizam also said that it was a very good experience for these children to be able to compete in a competition with the strongest bodyboarders currently in the Maldives. Nizam said that MBBA is working to provide opportunities for children coming to competitions through the Hudhufonu program and to further advance them.
