No evidence of Iran developing nuclear weapons: IAEA Chief

The head of the UN’s International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, has stated that there is no evidence that Iran is working on developing nuclear weapons. Grossi’s comments contradict the pretexts used by Israel and the United States to justify attacks on Iran.

Speaking to a CNN reporter, Grossi said that IAEA reports have noted that there is no evidence of Iran deliberately working to produce a nuclear weapon. Iran has also repeatedly stated that its nuclear program is peaceful. Grossi said that the IAEA’s findings are corroborated by other independent institutions.

Grossi’s statement that Iran is not believed to be working on producing a nuclear weapon comes as criticisms are directed at the IAEA’s latest report on Iran’s nuclear program. Iran has rejected the report, calling it politically motivated.

A few days ago, the IAEA Board of Governors also passed a resolution against Iran, falsely claiming that Iran was acting in violation of the nuclear treaty it had signed. Iran maintains that it is fulfilling its obligations under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and the IAEA Safeguards Agreement. Iran also states that it is no longer bound by the terms of the nuclear agreement or JCPOA signed with world powers in 2015. This is because other countries in the agreement are not adhering to it, Iran notes.

While Iran is a party to the NPT, Israel has refused to sign the agreement. Since June 13, Israeli forces have been targeting Iran with terrorist attacks, claiming to obstruct Iran’s nuclear program. These attacks have martyred many Iranian military commanders, nuclear scientists, and civilians. Some nuclear facilities have also been attacked. In response, Iran has launched a special operation called “Operation True Promise 3,” beginning powerful attacks on important areas of the Israeli state.

Grossi’s agreement that Iran is not working to produce nuclear weapons comes as Israel continues to attack Iran and the United States threatens to attack Iran’s nuclear facilities. On June 17, US President Donald Trump also claimed that Iran is working to produce nuclear weapons.
