
Minister of Tourism and Environment Tariq Ibrahim has said that efforts are being made to increase the number of days tourists spend in the Maldives, along with the target of 2.3 million tourists. The Minister said this in a special interview given to PSM News. The government aims to bring 2.3 million tourists to the Maldives this year. So far, 1 million tourists have visited the Maldives. This is the first year that 1 million has been reached so quickly.
In a special interview with PSM News, Minister of Tourism and Environment Tariq Ibrahim said that with bringing 2.3 million tourists, it’s necessary to look at how many days tourists are spending in the Maldives. The Minister said work has begun to increase the number of days tourists spend in the Maldives.
“We need to increase the days spent in the Maldives. So we need to do more work on that. The days they spend in the Maldives, the amount they spend in the Maldives, and what they spend on. We need to do more work on these things too. Along with that, we are also looking to bring high-end tourists among the tourists coming to the Maldives,” the Minister said.
By the end of last year, tourists visiting the Maldives spent an average of 7.7 days. Statistics from the Ministry of Tourism show that so far this year, an average of 6,363 tourists are arriving in the Maldives per day.
The Minister said that since President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu took office, a lot of importance has been given to activities promoting the Maldives. In this regard, he said that at this year’s ITB as well, meetings were held with senior officials of all major airlines visiting the Maldives and major travel agencies, giving it very important priority. The Minister also said that discussions were held in these meetings on what could be done jointly to promote the Maldives. In addition to participating in major travel fairs, Minister of Tourism and Environment Tariq Ibrahim said that many roadshows are now being held to promote the Maldives.
