Australian Ange Postecoglou has been dismissed as the coach of English Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur. The 59-year-old Postecoglou was removed from his position after leading the team to win the Europa League championship last season. Tottenham defeated Manchester United in the final, marking their first trophy in 17 years. Despite winning the Europa League and securing a Champions League spot for the upcoming season, Tottenham’s performance in the Premier League has been unsatisfactory. They finished the league in 17th place.

Postecoglou, who took over as Tottenham’s coach two years ago, always maintained that he was a coach who wins trophies in the second season. He stated that he was working on building a good team and was confident of success. In the past Premier League season, Tottenham Hotspur lost 22 out of 38 matches. On the first day Postecoglou took charge of Tottenham in July 2023, the team’s forward Harry Kane joined Bayern Munich for a fee of 120 million euros. Since then, Postecoglou has faced numerous challenges. The team also encountered many injury problems during the past season.

In a statement released by Tottenham Hotspur, they acknowledged that the Europa League victory was the club’s biggest success in its history. However, they stated that the club’s future cannot be determined based on this achievement alone. They pointed out that in the last 66 Premier League matches, the team has only accumulated 78 points, which is not the result the club desires.
