The Volleyball Association of Maldives (VAM) has begun the process of finding a new coach to prepare the national under-23 volleyball team for the Indian Ocean Island Games (IOIG). VAM President Mohamed Latheef said that following the departure of the previous coach, Ali Pour Arouji, who was brought in to prepare the men’s under-23 team for the IOIG, they are now working to find another international coach. He mentioned that they have already interviewed an Iranian coach.

Latheef stated that they have shared information about the available resources in the Maldives with the Iranian coach they interviewed, and they are hopeful that the matter will be settled soon. He added that they are working to bring a new coach to the Maldives the Maldives within the next 30 days. VAM is once again bringing in an experienced Iranian coach with a license from FIVB, the main governing body of volleyball. The coach is a former player with extensive experience in the Iranian national team and is also a coach with significant regional volleyball experience.

Latheef noted that the previous Iranian coach left the Maldives due to the lack of indoor courts for the required training and the absence of necessary resources. He mentioned that they have informed the newly interviewed coach that 80% of the training sessions would have to be held outdoors due to the difficulties in accessing indoor halls. The previous coach left because of the lack of training facilities and an environment to conduct necessary team drills, Latheef explained.

Latheef highlighted that the Ministry of Sports is cooperating in finding a new coach for the national under-23 volleyball team and in arranging a place for training sessions.

He also mentioned that the government is working to address the resource constraints and expressed full confidence in the current administration’s commitment to allocating dedicated spaces for volleyball.
