Maldives equals Bhutan to reach semi-finals

The Maldives national team has advanced to the semi-finals of the SAFF U-19 Championship after drawing with Bhutan’s national team. The match played yesterday evening in India ended in a 2-2 draw, with Maldives leading until Bhutan equalized in extra time. With this result, Maldives progressed to the semi-finals as the second-placed team in the group, having drawn both of their matches. Maldives’ first match ended in a 2-2 draw against Bangladesh.

In yesterday’s match, the first goal was scored by Lam Tenzin in the 44th minute. After this goal, Bhutan had several good opportunities to extend their lead but failed to do so. Maldives equalized through Valencia’s young forward Aidhoo Mohamed Javeez. After his goal in the 77th minute, Maldives took the lead in extra time with a goal from Ashham Ibrahim Mohamed. However, Bhutan equalized just two minutes later.

Bangladesh qualified for the semi-finals as the top team from this group. They achieved this with four points after drawing with Maldives and defeating Bhutan. Maldives earned two points, while Bhutan received one point. In the semi-finals, Maldives will face the top team from Group B. This will be either Nepal or India. The group winner will be determined after the match between Nepal and India. The semi-final matches of this tournament will be played on Friday. The final match will be held on Sunday.
