Three officers who misused their position of influence while working at Immigration have also been remanded. Police arrested several Immigration employees on March 20th on suspicion of abusing their official positions to obtain undue benefits from foreign workers. At that time, police said that three Immigration officers had been arrested in connection with the case.
When the arrested officers were brought to court yesterday to decide on their detention, two individuals were ordered to be detained for 10 days and one for 3 days, according to the police. In a statement released last night, police said that employees from sections other than the Task Force and Risk Management Section of Immigration had misused their official influence to search a house where foreigners were living.
The statement also mentioned that foreigners were taken taken into Immigration custody from that house along with a large amount of cash. Additionally, police said that one day later, on the orders of the former Controller Shamaan, a foreigner who was brought to Immigration detention with 530,000 rufiyaa was released from detention in the early hours of the morning. Furthermore, police stated that they have learned that an Immigration employee who actively participated in searching the house where these foreigners were arrested met the released foreigner on the street, obtained the money in his possession, and entered the building where Shamaan was residing with that money.
