President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu said today that providing clean water to the people is one of the government’s top priorities. In a post on X on the occasion of World Water Day, President Dr. Muizzu said he extends World Water Day greetings to all Maldivians and international partners.
Noting that this year’s World Water Day theme is “Glacier Preservation,” the President said that the theme reminds us of the connection between climate change, scarcity of water resources, and human vulnerability. “We will continue to speak on such sensitive issues. Providing clean water to the people is one of the top priorities,” the President said.
Concluding his remarks, the President urged taking meaningful steps to build a sustainable future. As a result of global warming, the melting of polar ice caps causes sea levels to rise. With the help of a satellite launched by NASA, the rate at which the world’s ice sheets are melting has been determined, and scientists have previously stated that it is at a concerning level.
As the world warms and the temperature of the ice sheets rises, scientists reported in the journal Nature that this causes a rise of 0.6 millimeters per year.”
