The President has appointed former Police Commissioner (Retired) Ahmed Faseeh as the Immigration Controller. President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu appointed Faseeh to the position of Immigration Controller following the sudden dismissal of Mohamed Shamaan Waheed, who previously held the position, yesterday. The government has not yet revealed the reason for Shamaan’s dismissal. The President’s Office stated that Faseeh has been appointed to the position of Controller.
In a statement, the police said they are investigating information received about some Maldives Immigration employees misusing their official influence to obtain undue benefits from foreign workers. In connection with this case, during an operation conducted on the night of March 20, 2025, a house was searched, and three individuals were taken into police custody. Shamaan, who worked at Immigration for 14 years, was appointed as Immigration Controller on November 19, 2023, after the current government came to power.
At that time, he had been dismissed from his position as an Immigration officer. However, in 2022, the Employment Tribunal had ruled that Shamaan’s dismissal was unlawful and ordered his reinstatement. Former Police Commissioner (Retired) Ahmed Faseeh has served 23 years in the police service. Faseeh retired in 2012.
