Usham’s statistics: 56 measures taken against judges during MDP’s government!

Attorney General Ahmed Usham has stated that 56 measures were taken against judges during MDP’s government. Usham said this in connection with the ongoing discussions related to the Judicial Service Commission (JSC)’s decision to suspend three Supreme Court judges in relation to a case being investigated by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). JSC decided to suspend Judges Husnu Al Suood, Mahaz Ali Zahir, and Dr. Azmiralda Zahir. Among them, Husnu Al Suood has resigned from his position.

In a post on X, Usham said that “misconduct” based on judges’ statements in court or their decisions was ended from November 2023. He also stated that when looking at the measures taken by JSC against judges from 2019 to date, it is very clear during which period the judiciary was most influenced.

His post detailed the measures taken against judges from November 2018 to November 2023, and from November 2023 to February 2025. According to the post, from November 2018 to November 2023, the number of judges dismissed from their positions reached eight, while the number of suspended judges reached 12. The number of judges demoted reached three, while the number of judges reprimanded after being found guilty of misconduct reached 33. In total, 56 measures were taken against judges.

Looking at the measures taken against judges from November 2023 to February 2025, the number of judges dismissed from their positions is 0. The number of suspended judges reached three, while the number of judges demoted is 0. And the number of judges reprimanded after being found guilty of misconduct is two. In total, five measures were taken against judges.
