The People’s Majlis has just passed a bill to amend the Courts Act, reducing the Supreme Court bench from seven to five justices and mandating the dismissal of two justices. This amendment was proposed by PNC member Abdus Sattar Mohamed, MP for Hoarafushi constituency.
The amendment passed with a majority of 68 votes. Nine members voted against the bill.
