President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has today cancelled the previous decision to include the waste management bill from the Waste Management Corporation (WAMCO) with the electricity bill for households in the atolls. Previously, it was decided that from January 1, 2025, the bill for WAMCO’s household waste collection service in the atolls would be included in another utility bill (electricity bill). However, WAMCO has stated that this decision has now been cancelled.
“We inform you that the decision to include the bill for WAMCO’s household waste collection service in the atolls with another utility bill from January 2025 has been cancelled on the advice of His Excellency President of the Maldives Dr. Mohamed Muizzu,” WAMCO said in an announcement.
The company said that with this change, WAMCO’s service will only be provided to those who register for the company’s service. They also stated in the announcement that arrangements for paying WAMCO bills have been made through offices established in the atolls and WAMCO’s QuickPay portal. WAMCO currently bills for waste management in the Male’ area together with the electricity bill. Each household is required to pay MVR 150 per month for the waste bill. This is also the amount to be paid in the atolls.
