Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has reinstated and subsequently suspended the 15 employees who were dismissed last Sunday. This action was taken in connection with the ongoing criminal investigation related to the Gedhoruverin/Binverin (Homeowner/Landowner) scheme.

According to an HDC official, all dismissed employees, including some senior management staff, have been reinstated. However, these employees are now under suspension, the official said. The official added that suspensions of employees not connected to the ongoing case will be lifted gradually. Actions will be taken against employees found to be involved in the case.

Among the reinstated employees are Chief Financial Officer Abdullah Faaidh and Chief Business Officer and Head of Media Department Ahmed Yaameen. Of the 15 dismissed employees, all except one were close associates of former HDC Managing Director Ibrahim Fazul Rasheed. Regarding this matter, HDC Board Chairman Ahmed Nasif (DD) stated that HDC is taking necessary steps to facilitate the investigation. He added that the company is also aligning its internal affairs to support the ongoing investigations by the police and Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

This case originated when it was revealed that a plot of land was allocated to Mohamed Fazeel Rasheed, Deputy Managing Director of MWSC and brother of then-HDC Managing Director Ibrahim Fazul Rasheed, before he met the eligibility criteria for the Binverin scheme. This led to a major investigation by the ACC and the police.
