President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated that the people of both nations remain the cornerstone of the 58-year-long diplomatic relationship between the Maldives and Malaysia. The President made these remarks during an official banquet held in honor of the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Anwar Ibrahim, who is currently on an official visit to the Maldives.
In his address, President Muizzu expressed the Maldives’ aspiration to achieve progress in education, technology, and the economy, drawing inspiration from Malaysia’s developmental model, and highlighted the importance of strengthening cooperation in these sectors. The President further extended his gratitude to the Malaysian government and the Prime Minister for their support in providing financial, educational, and visa assistance, as well as for their collaboration regarding a currency swap facility and a bilateral trade agreement. Additionally, he called for enhanced cooperation in environmental conservation and the protection of marine ecosystems.
