According to the latest statistics from the Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA), the state collected MVR 104.4 million as Zakat al-Mal by the end of August this year. This represents a 27 percent increase compared to the same period last year. However, the MVR 7 million collected during the month of August alone shows a decline compared to the corresponding month of the previous year. While the Nisab for Zakat al-Mal has been set at MVR 19,266.10 effective from the 20th of last month, MIRA has facilitated online services for both the calculation and payment of Zakat through its official website.
