The Government of the Maldives and the United Nations have formally signed the “United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework” for the period 2027-2031. This agreement, supported by 16 UN agencies, aims to facilitate the achievement of the Maldives’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The signing ceremony, held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, featured Minister of Foreign Affairs Iritisham Adam representing the government, and the UN Resident Coordinator to the Maldives, Hao Zhang, signing on behalf of the United Nations. Developed through extensive multi-stakeholder consultations, the framework prioritizes human capital development, environmental sustainability, climate resilience, and the enhancement of governance systems. Commemorating the 60th anniversary of the partnership between the Maldives and the UN, this strategic roadmap is designed to bring transformative improvements to the lives of Maldivian citizens over the next five years.
