The People’s Majlis has today passed an amendment to the Tax Act with a majority of 54 members, enabling the collection of TGST from foreign booking platforms, tour operators, and travel agents operating within the Maldives. The primary objective of this amendment is to strengthen the tax system and broaden the tax base. It is estimated that this change will generate an additional 16 billion Rufiyaa in annual state revenue. Only two members voted against the bill.
