The Ministry of Fisheries and Ocean Resources has commenced efforts to vacate the current local market site within one month to facilitate the construction of a new six-story market complex. This MVR 126.4 million project aims to consolidate Malé’s primary markets under a single roof, with temporary relocation arrangements currently being made for existing vendors. Despite previous delays in the handover of the land, this modern facility—which will feature 455 stalls, a food court, and parking for 400 motorcycles—is targeted for completion within 20 months.
