MVR 600 Million Fund Established to Support State Employees Transitioning to Entrepreneurship

Minister of Finance Moosa Zameer has announced the establishment of a 600 million Rufiyaa loan fund, branded as the “Kumevi Fund,” within the SME Digital platform. This initiative aims to assist individuals departing from state-owned enterprises (SOEs) as part of financial consolidation and “right-sizing” efforts, as well as those aspiring to start their own businesses. The Minister emphasized that the primary objective of this fund is to ensure that displaced employees are not marginalized but are instead empowered to generate independent income. He further noted that the Business Center Corporation (BCC) will provide assistance in developing the necessary business proposals for these loan applications. Additionally, the Minister underscored the government’s commitment to ensuring that every individual affected by economic reforms receives protection and support, regardless of their political affiliation.
