Minister of Finance Hassan Zareer informed the People’s Majlis that while 18,053 employees were added to State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) during the MDP administration, the current government has hired 4,938 employees, bringing the total workforce to 41,667. The Minister assured that no employee would be dismissed based on political affiliation and emphasized that the Ministry is focused on reducing corporate expenditures to ensure financial sustainability. Furthermore, the Minister noted that as 53 percent of the Maldivian workforce is employed within the public sector, reducing the headcount is essential for strengthening the national economy.
