In a strategic move to expand the Maldivian mariculture sector, the government has designated 10 new zones, bringing the total number of areas dedicated to this industry to 13. These newly established zones are located within Thaa, Meemu, Faafu, Dhaalu, and Gaafu Alifu Atolls. In alignment with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s manifesto to advance this sector, the government has facilitated several initiatives, including opening opportunities for foreign investment, providing financial assistance and resources, and streamlining the allocation of land and lagoons under favorable terms. Furthermore, following the commencement of industrial-scale seaweed exports in 2025, the government is also implementing extensive training programs to empower Maldivians within this industry.
