In his official address on the occasion of National Day, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu emphasized the profound connection between Maldivian national identity and the principles of Islam. He highlighted that throughout history, whenever the nation’s sovereignty was threatened, its preservation was owed to the guidance of Islam, the courage of our ancestors, and an unwavering love for the country.
Drawing inspiration from the historic struggle of Muhammad Thakurufaanu, who liberated the Maldives from Portuguese rule, the President noted how the monarchs, scholars, common citizens, and the underprivileged alike fulfilled their national duty without regard for social status. He further expressed that the life and governance philosophy of Boduthakurufaanu offer vital lessons for contemporary generations. Concluding his remarks, the President appealed to all Maldivians to move past internal divisions and remain steadfast and united in defending their faith and national independence.
