President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated that the address he delivered during the official Independence Day function was not politically motivated, but rather comprised of vital remarks concerning the nation’s true independence and its future. Speaking on a podcast by PSM, the President emphasized that political independence alone does not grant citizens a full sense of freedom; instead, both the nation’s foreign and domestic policies must be independently shaped, prioritizing the interests of Maldivians. Furthermore, he noted that his reflections on the foreign policies of previous administrations were intended to bring the truth to light. The President also highlighted that his objective is to secure genuine independence for future generations and to reform the nation’s affairs.
