Despite the global travel shifts caused by the conflict in the Middle East impacting the Maldives’ tourism sector, Minister of Tourism Mohamed Ameen has expressed confidence that tourist arrival numbers for this year will not fall below those of the previous year. The Minister noted that although the conflict has led to increased travel costs and fluctuations in European and Middle Eastern markets, collaborative efforts between the government and industry stakeholders have successfully slowed the rate of decline in arrivals. Furthermore, he highlighted that based on bookings for the upcoming two quarters, there is a strong outlook for achieving last year’s targets. According to recent statistics, over 1.1 million tourists have visited the Maldives so far this year, and the rate of decline in arrivals compared to the previous year has been significantly reduced.
