President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu envisions transforming the Maldives into a fully developed nation by the year 2040. To realize this ambitious goal, the administration is spearheading a comprehensive digital revolution. Significant strides have already been made, including efforts to introduce global payment platforms such as “PayPal,” thereby enabling local businesses to integrate seamlessly into the international market.
To provide a robust legal foundation for these advancements, four pivotal bills have been submitted to the People’s Majlis. These include the “Digital Transformation Bill,” designed to modernize state administration; the “Digital Identity Bill,” aimed at ensuring the security of online transactions; the “Cyber Security Bill,” to safeguard against cyber threats; and the “Personal Data Protection Bill,” dedicated to upholding the privacy of individual information. This legislative framework is expected to curb corruption, enhance governmental integrity, and ensure the secure delivery of digital services to all citizens.
