The Thilamalé Bridge project, contracted to India’s Afcons Infrastructure, has reached a significant milestone with approximately 75% of the overall work now complete. As the largest infrastructure development in the Greater Malé Region, current efforts are primarily focused on the installation of deck segments required to connect the bridge pillars. Notably, over 90% of the required segments have already been completed, and only one segment remains to be installed to establish the physical connection between Malé and Villimalé.

This 6.7-kilometer project, designed to link Malé, Villimalé, Gulhifalhu, and Thilafushi, is targeted for full completion by the end of 2027. At present, work is also progressing on the construction of access roads and revetments in both Gulhifalhu and Thilafushi. Funded through a USD 500 million package comprising grants and loans from the Government of India, this project is considered a vital cornerstone for the Maldives’ future economic and social development.
