The People’s National Congress (PNC) has announced that more than 2,500 members will be appointed to various leadership positions following its constituency elections scheduled for this Saturday. These internal elections will see the selection of constituency presidents, vice-presidents, heads of women’s and youth wings, and chairpersons for steering committees.
The party’s spokesperson, Heena Waleed, stated that voting will take place across 131 islands where positions are being contested. Eligibility to vote is restricted to members officially registered with the Elections Commission as PNC members as of June 15th. Notably, for constituencies currently represented by PNC Members of Parliament, those MPs will automatically serve as the constituency presidents, and therefore, no elections for that specific position will be held in those areas.
The PNC aims to conclude these elections ahead of the party’s National Congress, which is scheduled to take place in September.
