According to statistics released by Maldives Customs Service, the Maldives exported goods valued at MVR 98 million during the month of May. The most notable growth was observed in the export of canned fish, which saw a 22.5% increase compared to April. With exports totaling MVR 38 million, canned fish emerged as the primary seafood product exported during this period. The United Kingdom remained the leading destination for Maldivian exports.

Despite a seasonal decline in fish catch, MIFCO has raised the purchase price of fish to MVR 20 per kilogram to support local fishermen. Furthermore, the two-year tariff exemption on Maldivian fish products granted by the UK presents a significant opportunity to potentially double the country’s fish export capacity.
