Statistics released by the Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) reveal that 162 tons of freight were dispatched to seven different countries via five airlines through the Sea-to-Air cargo service during the month of May. This volume reflects 29 containers of goods re-exported under the newly inaugurated service, which commenced on May 15, 2024, to facilitate the transshipment of sea-bound cargo by air.
A collaborative initiative between MPL and Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), this strategic venture aims to bolster the national economy by leveraging the extensive network of international airlines operating in the Maldives. In the past month, the service was utilized by prominent carriers, including Qatar Airways, Etihad Airways, Saudia, Swiss International Air Lines, and Turkish Airlines.
