
Speaking at the “Zero Waste Forum” currently held in Türkiye, Minister Ahmed Shiyam emphasized the critical importance of international cooperation and the integration of modern technology in tackling the challenges of waste management.
The Minister highlighted that the Maldives’ unique geographical dispersion poses significant hurdles in the transportation and storage of food, leading to increased food spoilage and waste. To mitigate this issue, he noted that the Maldives is implementing innovative solutions such as “Agri Boats.”
Furthermore, Minister Shiyam stated that efforts are underway in collaboration with international organizations to reduce food loss. He underscored that expanding cold storage facilities and providing financial and technical assistance to farmers are essential steps for the sustainable advancement of this sector.
