The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has been contracted to develop a 100-meter quay wall and conduct paving works at the Thilafushi Harbor for MVR 154 million. Scheduled for completion within 120 days, this project is expected to significantly alleviate the cargo clearance challenges currently faced at the Malé and Hulhumalé ports.
Initially, this area will be utilized specifically for cargo clearance operations. However, once the Thilafushi International Port project is fully realized, this facility will serve as a dedicated “service quay” for Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) vessels. MPL aims to commence operations at the new Thilafushi port by November 2027, at which point all commercial port activities will be relocated from Malé to the new site.
