President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has returned the Human Organ Transplant Bill to the People’s Majlis, requesting a formal reconsideration of the legislation.

The bill was passed by the Parliament on Thursday, May 14, 2026, during the 19th sitting of the first session of the 20th People’s Majlis. It was subsequently forwarded to the President for ratification on May 19, 2026.

The President decided to return the bill due to concerns regarding potential challenges in its implementation, following amendments made by the Parliament during the legislative process. Upon review, the President concluded that further revisions are necessary to ensure the bill’s objectives are effectively met.

Accordingly, pursuant to Article 91 (a) of the Constitution of the Republic of Maldives, President Dr. Muizzu has returned the Human Organ Transplant Bill to the People’s Majlis tonight for further deliberation and review.
