Deputy Speaker Nazim Resigns from Office

Ahmed Nazim has officially resigned from his position as the Deputy Speaker of the Parliament. His resignation comes just as the legislative body was preparing to convene a session to proceed with a no-confidence motion seeking his removal from the post.

Following the formal announcement of Nazim’s resignation during today’s parliamentary session, Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdulla declared that an additional sitting would be held at 13:00 today. The primary agenda for this upcoming session is the election of a new Deputy Speaker of the Parliament.

The resolution to remove Nazim from the Deputy Speaker’s post was initially submitted to the Parliament on the 14th of this month. The parliamentary administration had previously confirmed that the proceedings were being conducted in strict adherence to the Constitution and the Parliament’s Standing Orders.

In a press statement released to announce his resignation, Nazim explicitly denied the allegations and grounds cited in the motion for his removal.
