Expert divers involved in the recovery operation have stated that the five Italian divers who perished in a sea cave near V. Alimatha lacked the necessary safety equipment and essential guide ropes required for such a high-risk environment. It is believed the tragedy was triggered when disturbed sediment clouded the water inside the cave, causing disorientation. This lack of visibility likely led to panic and critical errors as the divers struggled to locate an exit. The victims, who included a diving instructor and members of the same family, were recovered from a depth of 165 feet. Professionals strongly advise against exploring such hazardous underwater caves without specialized training and the appropriate technical resources.
