The Maldives Meteorological Service (MET Office) has issued a weather advisory predicting heavy rain and strong winds across much of the country over the next 24 hours. This current spell of inclement weather is attributed to the seasonal transition from the Northeast Monsoon (Iruvai) to the Southwest Monsoon (Hulhangu).

According to the MET Office, while widespread rainfall is expected across the archipelago, the central and southern regions are likely to experience particularly heavy downpours. Wind speeds are forecasted to gust up to 40 mph during squalls. While sea conditions are generally expected to remain moderate, they are likely to become rough during these periods of increased wind.

The national weather service further noted that these weather conditions are expected to persist for the next three days. Consequently, the MET Office urges the public and seafarers to exercise caution and remain vigilant during this period.
