President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced the decision to construct a dedicated mental health hospital in the Greater Male’ Region, funded entirely through the state budget. While the project was initially planned for L. Gan under a loan facility, the government has relocated the project to the capital region to ensure the timely provision of services, as there have been delays in securing the loan assistance.
A primary reason for this strategic shift is statistical evidence showing that the vast majority of individuals seeking mental health treatment are currently based in Male’. In addition to this infrastructure development, the government is also in the process of drafting a specialized legislative framework aimed at curbing bullying within the community to foster a safer social environment.
