To mitigate the impact of rising global fuel prices on the fishing industry, the government has established mechanisms to provide fuel at subsidized rates across 13 regions of the Maldives. Consequently, fishermen can now access affordable diesel through Fuel Supplies Maldives (FSM) skids and Maldives Fisheries Chemicals Company (MIFCO) sites located throughout the country.
To utilize this service, vessel owners are required to submit a copy of the vessel’s license and the most recent fish purchase receipt. Fuel allocations are determined based on the size of the vessel. This government initiative aims to reduce operational costs for fishermen and provide significant economic relief. To date, over 1.1 million liters of fuel have been distributed to fishermen under this program.
