Minister of Fisheries and Ocean Resources, Ahmed Shiyam, has announced that the government has distributed more than 1.1 million liters of fuel at discounted prices to support the fishing community. This initiative aims to alleviate the economic challenges faced by fishermen due to the prevailing situation in the Middle East.

Under this assistance program, fuel is allocated based on vessel size, with quantities ranging from 1,500 to 5,000 liters per boat. To date, 958 fishing vessels have benefited from this scheme. Among the various MIFCO centers, the Kooddoo facility has recorded the highest volume of fuel distribution.

Currently, arrangements have been established for vessels weighing in their catch at MIFCO to purchase diesel at rates between MVR 16.04 and MVR 16.54 per liter.
