Ibrahim Shujaau, the Member of Parliament for the Baarah constituency, has asserted that the ongoing protests by the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) in Malé are primarily intended to capture campaign photographs for their upcoming internal elections and to project a facade of sacrifice to their general membership.
Shujaau highlighted that while these demonstrations cause significant public distress and inconvenience, there are currently no individuals subjected to political persecution or unlawful detention in the country. He further noted that the government remains dedicated to enhancing public services and criticized these baseless protests as a display of professional irresponsibility. The MDP commenced its series of protests last Wednesday night, citing a list of 12 specific demands.
