According to statistics released by MIFCO, a total of MVR 88.8 million was paid to fishermen for 5,186 metric tons of fish weighed during the first three months of this year. The highest volume of fish landings and subsequent payments occurred in January. Currently, the disbursement process has been streamlined to ensure fishermen receive their payments within 48 hours. Furthermore, the government is working to facilitate the provision of fuel to fishermen at subsidized rates. The government’s strategic objective remains the expansion of the fisheries sector and the enhancement of its overall revenue generation.
